Parenting Programs

Considering the vital role parents play in a teen’s success, Teen Health Connection offers parenting resources specifically designed to strengthen parental efficacy and build healthy connections between parents and their teens. We offer virtual parent training, virtual parent support groups, and opportunities to participate in in-depth discussions on the hottest topics affecting teens today. Our goal is to give parents confidence and courage to meet the challenges – and savor the joys – that accompany the teenage years. We are continuously updating our resources and expanding our programming to meet the needs and interests of all parents as well as accommodate all schedules.

Our parenting facilitator is also available for parenting consultations and coaching. Please reach out to Kris Hawkins (kris.hawkins@teenhealthconnection.org) for more information. To register for a class, see the calendar below. The zoom link will be delivered upon registration.

Winning Your Teen’s Cooperation

When we choose, consciously or unconsciously, to engage in power struggles with our teen, we become an adversary in a “fight” for control and power. We will explore why sharing power with our teens is necessary. How it teaches them the very important lesson of working cooperatively with others and plays a vital role in developing and maintaining strong, positive parent-teen relationships; relationships where everyone wins. Please contact Kris Hawkins (kris.hawkins@teenhealthconnection) for more detailed information on these classes.

Supporting Your Teen’s Behavioral Health:

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) defines Behavioral Health as the promotion of mental health, resilience, and wellbeing. As parents, there are few things we would wish for our teens, as important as this. In this training our Parent Educator partners with a Teen Health Connection psychologist to explore the many aspects of life that affect a teen’s wellbeing. We will discuss the role parenting styles play in influencing a teen’s behavioral health, explore strategies to promote your teen’s wellbeing, review warning signs your teen might be dealing with mental health issues, and when and where to ask for help.

Teens and Technology; Finding the Balance:

In this class, parents will review the most recent information from leading experts regarding teens and their relationship with technology. Being mindful of the statistics from childmind.org that only 10% of kids and teens engage in problematic internet use ((PIU) – online use excessive enough to interfere with their daily lives), we’ll explore the potential dangers technology presents to a teen’s emotional and physical well-being and focus on establishing a healthy relationship with technology. Finally, we’ll discuss how finding a healthy balance with technology can lead to a more balanced life overall.
