Charlotte Business Journal – CEO Connections

Charlotte Business Journal | CEO Connections – Interview: Dr. Jennifer Thomas

Jennifer Thomas, Executive Director | Teen Health Connection

Start Date: December 1, 2025

How do you describe your leadership style?

What I do is heart work, and I use that perspective to approach all aspects of my work. I strive to lead intentionally with empathy, compassion, and curiosity to foster a culture of mutual respect and collaboration. My goal is for all members of our team to feel supported and empowered to contribute their best.

What didn’t you know about being a CEO until you became one?

Now in my fourth month, I’m energized by my new role and motivated by the unwavering commitment of our team, partners, and donors to support our teens and their families. What I didn’t fully appreciate prior to this role is the value in protecting time to focus and reflect. While the hours in the day feel fewer and full, I’ve gained a new perspective on the importance of prioritizing and balancing the varying demands on your time.

What is currently your biggest challenge?

As an organization providing integrated health-care services for adolescents, I recognize that the needs of our teens and families are great. Our challenge is expanding our reach to have the greatest impact on improving their health outcomes and overall well-being. Despite these challenges, I remain inspired by their courage, strength, and resilience.

On the weekends, you can find me…

Spending time with my family – my husband, son, and daughter. Together, we enjoy traveling and being outside when the weather is warm and sunny. Trips to the beach are a family favorite.
