Johnston Ziegler Scholarship

Dr. John Gardner Johnston, Teen Health Connection’s founding Medical Director, and Charlotte pediatrician is known for his efforts to empower every adolescent to be healthy, safe, and successful. Throughout his career, Dr. Johnston has dedicated his time to improving the lives of his patients and to community child advocacy.

Barbara Ziegler demonstrated outstanding commitment and capability in her efforts to improve adolescent health as the Founding Executive Director for Teen Health Connection. Barbara advocated for adolescents through position statements and conversations with local, state, and national politicians and through her service on various local and state committees and boards.

The Johnston Ziegler Youth Leadership Award is a merit-based scholarship that recognizes a local high-school senior who, like Dr. Johnston and Barbara Ziegler, has demonstrated outstanding leadership, advocacy, or service for adolescents. The selected youth will receive a $7,500 educational scholarship to the college or university of his or her choice.

About the Scholarship:

Dr. John Gardner Johnston, Teen Health Connection’s founding Medical Director, and Charlotte pediatrician was known for his efforts to empower every adolescent to be healthy, safe, and successful. The Johnston Ziegler Youth Leadership Scholarship was close to Dr. Johnston’s heart and reflects his passion for empowering and inspiring teenagers in our community. Dr. Johnston strongly believed in nurturing the potential of our youth and fostering their growth.
